Between October 2006 and march 2007, under subcontract from Regional Aids Training Network, carried out institutional assessment of the Hope for African Children Initiative in Kenya and Mozambique. The assessment included carrying out household surveys in areas targeted by the programmes of HACI in both rural and urban settings.
Carried out training for programme officers on personal organisation, time management and performance management for Development Kenya Action (DKA) Support Office. DKA is a Hungarian-based NGO with a field office in South B, Nairobi, providing capacity support to CBOs working slum areas of Nairobi (April and June, 2006)
Between September 21st and Oct 14th, carried out performance appraisal for Regional Aids Training Network secretariat staff in Nairobi. The appraisal, using the 360 Degree Feedback approach, took the form of preparation of appraisal tools, performance management orientation workshop, performance appraisal and feedback and preparation of appraisal report.
Participating as a British Council sub-contractor in a poverty alleviation project funded by DFID, Kicher & Associates worked with communities in the South Rift region of Kenya in identifying business opportunities, training and counseling people who wished to start or were engaged in income generating activities. This programme had three major components: the business start-up- for those who wished to start their own business; the business growth-for owners of existing businesses who faced challenges of expansion or maintenance of the status quo; and counseling- for all target small entrepreneurs. In addition, Kicher & Associates facilitated linkages of small businesses to sources of financing. The contract ran between April 1999 and March 2003.
Working with K-REP, Kicher and Associates implemented the Income Generating Activity (IGA) component of a Community-based HIV/AIDs project of Pathfinder International funded by USAID. The implementation included carrying out training needs analysis of target population, designing and developing training programs for community groups and their leadership and actual training, and counseling follow up. Kicher and Associates carried out monitoring and evaluation of the same project with an external team. The engagement in this project ran from March 2001 to June 2002, and again April to June 2003
Trained the leaders of community based organizations (CBOs) working with Action Aid in project management, proposal and report writing, and Training of Trainers in August 2002 in Nairobi and the North Region office in Isiolo in April 2003.
In 1999-2000, Kicher & Associates assisted in setting up operational systems for two micro-finance institutions, one serving petty traders in slums and streets of all major towns in Nakuru district and the other serving small and medium enterprises in Nairobi.
Kicher & Associates developed training materials for the small and medium enterprise training for Kenya Management Assistance Program (K-MAP) and implemented training and counseling programmes for tens of entrepreneurs in the period 1996-July 1999. In 1998/99, Kicher & Associates, on behalf of KMAP, produced a weekly small enterprise support column titled Briefcase Q & A in The East African, for 42 weeks.
Kicher & Associates have conducted courses and have developed in-house competence and capability in providing training on the following community-oriented programmes: entrepreneurship; Objectives Oriented Planning (ZOPP techniques), community project management, ToT for community-based trainers, report writing, Community group organization and leadership.
